Parents Page

Welcome to the Parents Page of Make Them Behave. Firstly, let me thank you for taking the time to look at the website and also try to explain a bit about what we do. Make Them Behave is a website that has been set up by a teacher who is concerned about the lack of support for teachers and parents when dealing with behaviour both in and out of school. We are here to help you address behaviours in the home, to identify warning signs for anti-social behaviour outside of the home and we are also very keen to work with you on improving the relationship between you and your child's school if this is an area where for one reason or another communication and relations are strained.

Please read on for more of an insight into the sorts of issues we may be able to help you with:

How Can We Help?

Do you sometimes feel like no matter what you do it’s never good enough or that you’re constantly banging your head against a brick wall?

Does the mention of gang related violence and hearing of teenagers being stabbed and shot to death on the streets chill you to the bone?

Are you constantly worried about the company your son or daughter keeps and do you fear that they may be persuaded to take the wrong path in life?

Perhaps you have younger children who are getting into trouble at school but you don’t know why. Or is their behaviour great at school but it’s a different story when they’re at home?

Are you worried that your child is being bullied and wonder in what ways you can help?

Would you like to have more contact with your child’s school but are not sure quite how to do it? Perhaps your child is at risk of permanent exclusion from school or is about to begin schooling in a Pupil Referral Unit and you need further clarification as to what that actually means.

We're here to help!

The teenage brain is indeed a mystery. It can be frustrating trying to work out how best to manage their outbursts and how to get them to apply themselves at school. Equally it can also be difficult to get help with managing behaviours at home, not to mention how you make sure that you understand what the school is doing to help.
Make Them Behave can help advise you on:
• The support the school should/could be providing you and your child
• What other agencies are out there to help
• The right questions to ask the school and what the terminology they use means
• What to do or ask if you’re advised that your child is on report/has been excluded/has been put on a IEP/IBP/PSP/PEP
• Strategies for helping your child to meet their targets
